Halloween

Hallway finished

It took me about a week total to prime, caulk, and paint the hallway. The wood was really dark so it took two coats of primer and two coats of paint. I picked a tan from Benjamin Moore called Hush.

Here is the final product. I still have to do the tiny entry way and the hallway upstairs but that is going to have to wait because I need a break!

I did not tell her to pose for the pictures. She did this all herself!

Christmas in April!

When the gas company came to turn the gas on in January it took about four hours and six guys to figure out that the line was cut. I had no idea what that meant but apparently it means we would have to have a new pipe installed from the street to the house and it wouldn't and couldn't be done until April! Thankfully our heat is oil and our dryer is electric, but my oven is gas! I had no idea how hard it was going to be trying to cook with a microwave and crock pot for three months!

My line is going in today! I can't wait to actually be able to cook normal food again.
Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spring Cleaning and Spring Vacation are like oil and water.

I decided to get motivated this morning and start cleaning. This girls are on vacation this week and were playing in the playroom so it was the perfect time to start. I did my sisters trick with setting a timer for 15 minutes in each room. I was able to finish the kitchen and vacuum the rug and wood floors in the dining room. Ms. S decided she was hungry and helped herself to some goldfish about five minutes after I finished cleaning those two rooms. The really frustrating thing about this is I have a dog but apparently goldfish doesn't tempt her palate!

Is it bad that I just ate a few off the floor?

The hallway

The next big project is the hallway. I am posting some pre pics now and will post the after when it is done which will probably be in about four years at the rate we are going. There is so much painting to do that I get overwhelmed just looking at it.

One of my favorite things about the hallway is the window at the top of the stairs. My father gave me one of his treasured stained glass windows he made years ago and it looks perfect hanging there. It really makes such a fantastic statement when you walk in. Don't you agree? I mean who wasn't a fan of the A Team. (For all of the fans I believe a A Team movie is coming out this summer. We all know John will be there on opening night)!
Just kidding but this really cracks me up and I think I would hang it up when certain guests came over just to see their reaction if I had it! Here is what I really have.

Happy Thursday!

Master Bedroom

Here is some pics of the Master Bedroom. I did the wall color in Benjamin Moore Beach Glass. The bedding is Pottery Barn Sydney Palampore. I still need to get one more european sham for the center pillow but haven't had a chance to get back to Pottery Barn.

When we moved we upgraded our bed from a Queen to a King and I am not sure why we didn't do this sooner! There are two problems with the king though. The first problem is I had to put our bed frame that matched the furniture in the guest room. I want to get a matching headboard at some point but we have so much more to do in the house that it will just have to wait. Second problem is our nightstands are too wide for the wall. Only one fits and I currently have a plant stand on the other side. It works for now but want to change this at some point also.

I haven't the slightest clue on what to do for the window treatments in this room. Any suggestions?

Happy Friday!

I want to wish my nephew Kevin a Happy Birthday today! He is one of the nicest boys I know and I hope he has a wonderful day. We wish we lived closer so we could be there to celebrate with him. We love you Kevin!!!

Last night was Ms. M's Art Show at her Preschool. She wanted to look especially pretty for her big debut but all of her fancy dresses were Christmas plaids. She ended up borrowing one from her sister and I think it was perfect choice. My parents bought it on their trip to Ireland and it couldn't be any cuter!

It was a really fun night and M's Starry Night was amazing! Ms. S thoroughly enjoyed the beverages of pink lemon aide and hors d" oeuvers of goldfish!

Hope everyone has a Happy Valentine's Day!

I will be posting the playroom next week.

Half Bath

We made some changes from my last post on the half bath. I repainted because the color that I picked originally wasn't working for me. It is now Zenful by Benjamin Moore, we swapped out the larger sink for a small wall mount sink, added a nicer faucet, and we had the chair rail put in. I still have to paint the chair rail and retouch a few spots here and there.

I have no idea what that weird shadow on the wall above the toilet is. I think it might be the flash from my camera or maybe a reflection from the mirror? For those of you who enlarge the pic please know that I will clean the floor! I haven't had time and the dust from installing the chair rail is all over the place.

I like the smaller sink so much better, but have to figure out how to cover the pipes. Is it me or are they really sticking out and looking ugly??
I am leaning towards finding a cute fabric and making a skirt for around the sink. Any thoughts on this?
My Dad is looking for a cool tile to put up above the sink. We have to get something or the wall is going to get wrecked with water splashing.

I am really happy that we put in the half bath in the end. Makes life so much easier not having to run up stairs with the kids to use the potty. Especially now since we are in week one of getting Sadie potty trained before we leave for FL!
I will be posting pics of the playroom tomorrow!
Have a great day everyone.

We have moved in.

Here is the before pic of the dining room....

It has been a while since my last post because we just got Fios installed yesterday! Two weeks without TV and Internet has been interesting!

So here is the dining room. My Mom and Dad came up last week and painted the dining room and kitchen for me. They did such a great job and I love the colors. The dining room is Smokey Taupe by Benjamin Moore and the trim is done in Atrium White by Benjamin Moore. Notice the rug. My parents brought it when they came as a house warming gift. I think it looks just perfect with the wall color!

We put my china and crystal in the china cabinet. I am embarrassed to say this is the first time I have taken them out of the box since I got married. I never had a space for it in our last place and I was afraid something would get broken. Good news is I still love my china as much as the day I picked it out

The mirror was a wedding gift from my cousin Sara. I didn't have up in our last place because the ceilings were low and it just didn't look right so I was happy to be able to hang it up again! The table was my Aunt Betty's and my Uncle Jeff had it refinished last year and gave it to me as a house warming gift.

Check back tomorrow and I will have another room posted!

Purplicious!

My girls share a room in the apartment and even though we have a extra room in this house they still want to be together. They are both really excited to get a new room and they both wanted it to be PURPLE! Actually Molly wanted a purple room and Sadie just goes along with whatever Molly says.

The counters got installed today and I love them. I am so happy that the kitchen is done!!!!! I just need to finish the painting!

Here comes the sun.

We went to Ikea and the girls loved this light. So we got it and put in the play room.

I think the contractor thought I was crazy when I gave it to him to put up.

It actually looks really cute but it is a bit lopsided so he needs to fix that today.

The girls sporting their new Ikea hats and flower mask!

Tale of a Sconce...

This is one of the four sconces that came with the house in our living room. You are probably wondering why I would want to swap out these beauty's? Who knows these might be worth a ton on antique roadshow.

Here are the new ones! I am so excited that my cousin Sara found them for me. I searched high and low and they were discontinued everywhere. My very generous Uncle Jeff and Uncle Mark got all four for me as a house warming gift. Thank you so much I really love them!!!
